The Best Tips for Sticking to a Fitness Resolution

According to US News & World Report, the failure rate for New Year's resolutions is said to be around 80%, and most lose their resolve by mid-February. The most common one staying regular with exercise.

There can be a variety of reasons as to why people don't stick to a fitness routine because life sure does happen. And sometimes, we just don't have the right tools to manage our health and wellness so that when life does in fact, show up, we can swerve and pivot along with her own ebbs and flows.

Maybe it's time to add some new tools to that toolbox!

And you know how to make SMART goals, and the standard shit like f"find a workout you love" is all so played out. You know imma get deeper on what's happening and how to make it stick. So, if you are someone who notoriously comes in HOT on January 1st and then is no where to be seen by the 19th, then use the #ZenRageHeal process to get more clarity on starting your resolution.

Here are some tips to hop on NOW before you get started in 2023.

ZEN: Set a clear vision for your Future Self

According to James Clear, author of Atomic Habits, he states that we have to start creating habits that mimic the person we want to be, not where we are. So for example, if you want to stop smoking and be healthy, what kind daily habits and practices would THAT person do.

Start writing down a list of traits and qualities of what you want and who you are becoming. Also as a tip, I would positively frame them as things you do and qualities you are, rather than things your don't do.

You have to get connected to the person you want to be and start showing up as that person in your daily habits. Otherwise, the tasks like going to the gym and making smoothies don't connect to anything and can feel like arbitrary shit that doesn't really need to get done because you don't see or feel the point of it. Basically, because there isn't one.

Start with that clarity and hell, even make a vision board!

RAGE: Create daily intentions that lead to daily habits

Once you decide who you want to be, you can get clear on what kinds of habits and daily tasks you have to do that will make becoming that person a reality.

Using things like an intention setting and daily planner, you can start organizing what you want for the month, week and down to the day that directly relate to your becoming that new 2023 version of you.

Start with the big goals and then work your way down to daily intentions and habits. Maybe you are making green smoothies and maybe you are going to the gym 3 days a week, as long as it connects back to your overall goals!

HEAL: Constantly reflect and assess

Look, life is going to keep happening and showing up. And these pieces of reflection are ways to continue to make whatever your routine is work for you is key.

If you get a new job with a longer commute, but a gym on site, maybe you switch your workout to the afternoon, rather than try to get it in at the gym after that rush hour commute. You can always find a way to make the routine happen. Being flexible with HOW you get it done will be your friend in a busy and successful life.

The "how" will always make sense to the bigger goal.

So, before you book that membership, start having a conversation with yourself with what you want to do this upcoming year. Take some quiet time to hash it all out so you have a grounded and connected plan for you to enact with intention in the new year.

You get to be in total control of how you move in 2023.

Go get it!
